1/50.000 SCALE MERSIN PROVINCE ENVIRONMENTAL PLAN AND HOLISTIC URBAN RESEARCH AND ANALYTIC SURVEY

The basic philosophy behind the “1/50.000 Scale Mersin Province Environmental Plan” is to establish and develop a relationship between demographic size and natural resources integrating the principles of sustainability. The project aims to coordinate the sub-scale plans of Mersin Province within the scope of changing administrative borders; to set up strategic approach for land use decisions; to explore the potentials of Mersin province on global; national and regional scale and to protect and develop its natural and cultural heritage within a sustainable framework. Additionaly, focuses on urban development solutions to deal with the problems of uncontrolled migration and rapid urbanization, and to adopt a sustainable ecological approach for natural assets and renewable energy.

Analysis and synthesis for the purpose of the plan have resulted in determining of the sectoral and spatial principles, policies and strategies. Versatile data from research covering the whole city using “Geographical Information System” under “Mersin Province Database” comprises an important fundament for modeling, visualization and statistical analysis.
